Chapter 10

Chapter 10: Defeating the Wolf Boss!

There were a total of seven burly wolves in the pack.

Louise kicked the ground once again and threw herself into the sky.

It was as if even the best predators in the forest would turn into mere prey before her.

Meanwhile the pack of burly wolves were focusing on devouring their catch that they had hunted earlier.

“I’m sorry about this but you guys are ruining the balance of this forest.”

With no hesitation whatsoever, Louise landed right in the middle of the pack and flung her fist at a blinding speed.

Immediately afterwards, a wolf danced in the sky as her pale pink ponytail and her wobbly breasts swung lightly from the impact.

[Dong—!!!]

“Fuu~”

Seeing the convulsing figure of a burly wolf stuck on a tree branch, Louise let out a low sigh.

By the following second, the rest of the pack backed away from her as if they had instantly perceived the imminent danger ahead.

The length of its body was roughly about two meters long.

Burly wolves were agile and powerful creatures. They were also armed with muscles as hard as steel throughout the length of their bodies.

Severing their tendons with a one clean sword strike, was considered as the most effective method of subduing with them.

However, aiming such a precise spot on a moving target was not an easy feat. Which was what made them rather difficult to deal with.

When one wolf was already that difficult to handle, what if a burly wolf becomes a leader and forms an entire pack around it? Without a doubt, the level of difficulty of this monster subjugation would increase exponentially.

Even though their habitat mostly revolved around the hero territory, there were some instances of burly wolf packs occasionally wandering off to the demon territory.

Once chanced upon such an instance, even those of us in the demon army would silently withdraw without making any noise.

There weren’t many countermeasures for such a situation, other than to request reinforcements from the higher-ups while luring them in to a secluded area within the forest and—

“——Next!”

Louise simply ignored all the standard protocols and slaughtered them one after another with brute force alone.

“As usual, her fighting style is just…”

Suzette concealed her large silver gun with tree leaves as she said so.

The confusion among the wolves was quickly put to rest. One burly wolf had a short exchange with the pack before it bared its fangs and lunged at Louise.

Louise calmly dodged it as she stood by for the perfect moment to strike a killing blow with her fists.

“Scope aligned, upward calibration +2.5… no, +3.4 downwards…”

Suzette pushed her red rimmed glasses up with a flick of a finger as she pulled the trigger on the next second. A ray of light flashed momentarily before disappearing by the following moment. Suzette was pushed backwards by the recoil and collapsed against a large tree behind her.

“Su-Suzette? Are you okay…?”

Suzette supported her body as she sank into the ground while muttering in response, “Yeah, somehow.”

“It turns out like this when I concentrate a little too much. It’s a bit of an issue but …at least I got one of them.”

Suzette pointed at one of the muscle wolves while explaining, the wolf remained still without lunging at Louise like the others.

Just as I was starting to have my doubts.

Fresh blood spurted out from the gaps between its chest muscles as it soon collapsed on spot.

“Right through the crevice of the muscles and straight into the heart. Looks like it’s a hit.”

Suzette said so ever-so-casually. However, to aim for an exact spot between the muscles and shoot directly into its heart,,, you say?

Something like that would require minute-like precision as if threading a needle.

Nonetheless, Suzette’s blow gave Louise some leeway to ease up.

After one startled burly wolf fell victim to her fists, rest had moved to form a circle around her.

“Aaa—”

A distant sound pieced through the winds as it echoed from far away.

“—wooooooooooooooooo!!!”

Howls of a wolf reverberated through the entire forest.

A meaningful smile spread across Louise’s face.

“It’s coming…!”

Louise muttered instinctively. Suzette adjusted her scope as she aimed at the next target, and it was then,

[Tatatatatatata]

Rapid sound of light footsteps rose from the distance.

There were two in total. Suzette and I instantly surveyed the area but surprisingly, Nasha caught sight of them before us.

“Everyone, It's behind us!”

I turned at the sound of her voice and saw the large figure of the wolf boss. The sheer size of it alone had widely surpassed all the wolves in the pack by far.

It loomed over us, baring its deadly claws on full display.

It was about three meters in size. Although I had seen regular muscle wolves before, I had never thought of engaging in a fight with a boss wolf. Thus my body instantly stiffened at the sight before me.

When I came to, I noticed that Suzette was trying to turn her gun in defense but it was all too late.

“Damn!”

With a split-second decision, I pushed Suzette out of the way.

My ear was grazed with a hot sensation followed along by a sudden gush of crimson liquid.

I could barely feel my right arm and leg after I had somehow parried the attack of the wolf boss.

[Dragon of Destruction! Devour!]

My right arm felt hot as I was welcomed with excruciating pain.

However, destruction magic still functioned properly without a hitch.

It shot out of my arm in the form of a serpentine dragon, which had fully materialized from my mana.

The dragon that was coated with destructive mana, coiled around the leg of one of the boss wolves before it bit down hard,

[Bang!!]

The wolf boss’s left hind leg burst open with a loud snap.

Wolf boss shook violently for a moment before soon regaining its composure and jumping towards Louise from the back with its wobbly movements. Meanwhile, Louise was still in the middle of engaging with the wolf pack.

“Wha!? Eric! Don’t go around blasting its legs without asking!? That’s gonna mess up the taste!”

“That’s what you’re worried about in this situation!? Nevermind, it’s going that way!”

There was a deep cut on my right shoulder.

Even though it didn’t reach the bone, blood trickled down endlessly from the cut that seemed as if it was the fine work of a sharp sword.

It has been a long time since I was last injured to this extent.

Even under the care of a healing expert such as my former colleague, vampire princess, an injury like this would at least take at least 3 days to heal completely.

“Louise, I’m leaving the rest up to you! — Shoot”

Suddenly, Suzette’s voice came from behind as a thunderous roar rang soon after.

After taking her final shot, Suzette slumped down against her silver gun, completely exhausted.

Although it was not as accurate as the precise shot from earlier, the final shot was coated with a large amount of mana, as it carried the explosive power that annihilated the last of the pack of wolves that were about to attack Louise.

“...Leave it to me!”

Louise’s entire body was full of scars.

But it couldn’t be helped as her fighting style didn’t leave much room for evasion or defense.

Punch, punch and beat’em up til they go down.

It’s not a surprise to have so many wounds with such a bizarre fighting style.

“O’Lord have mercy unto the people. Blessed art thou— blessings of fairies”

Nasha held her hands on top of her chest.

A faint green light spread around as it drew a perfect circle around her.

And in the blink of an eye, all the wounds that littered Louise's body vanished without a trace.

It was as if they had never existed in the first place.

Same had occurred on my body.

The deep cut on my right shoulder; with the flesh gouged out from the inside while bleeding non-stop, had simply closed up and disappeared in an instant.

A warm jade light enveloped my body along with a pleasant sensation.

The source of this light appeared to be the ring on Nasha’s hand, which she held against her chest in a form of prayer.

“Thanks Nasha! With this, there’s no way I’m gonna lose.”

Louise gave off a silly smile before turning back to face the wolf boss.

While Luoise faced off against the wolf boss, I suddenly heard a familiar voice coming from deep within the forest.

『Eric-chan…? This smells like Eric-chan’s blood! Eric-chan is here!』

The sound of rustling grass grew louder and louder.

Which ended up being engulfed with certain someone’s loud war cry along with a howl of the beast.

“Awooooooooooooooo!!”

“Horyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!”

Just as the final showdown was about to unfold before his eyes—.

“Tut, tut, tut, tut, tut… tut-tut…! Ah, I knew it was Eric-chan!”

Suddenly I heard a soft voice from the side as my recently recovered right arm was caught within their grasp.

“Kya, Carol…?”

A girl with a familiar face clung to my right arm without even trying to hide her childish smile. She was— Carol Vampyrus.

The famous vampire who was nicknamed as the healing princess, and a former colleague of mine from the days of the Demon Army.

I'm so sorry for the delay. My editor was busy so I had put this on hold for the time being but since it's already Thursday, I had to post something. Please bear with the awkward phrasing and spelling mistakes for now, I'll re-edit this soon.
